We believe in responsible tutoring. We’re not in the business of “fast-food education” whereby children are coached to achieve only short-term goals. Premium small-group tutoring is about the long-term benefits of engaging teaching.
At RTC, children are encouraged to become independent thinkers whilst our teachers will instil a well-rounded set of skills and inspire a lifelong thirst for knowledge.
Striving for excellence
We have a brilliant cohort of teachers who are driven to help children strive for excellence. Our unique teaching principles underpin this drive towards excellence. Whether it be the 11+, SATs or GCSE exams, our students are taught to apply subject-specific knowledge and exam techniques. This ability to apply classroom learning to test conditions is the vital ingredient to achieving success in exams and beyond.
The RTC Ten Point Teaching Principles
What makes RTC different? We work to 10 key principles that elevate our lessons, our teachers, and our results. Where and when necessary, we are constantly reassessing and re-evaluating our methodologies to maintain high expectations around quality standards.
Classes at RTC are always teacher-led. Through our established ‘chalk and talk’ philosophy of education, our expert, experienced and enthusiastic teachers instil a love of learning where children are encouraged to go beyond the textbook in their quest to increase and apply knowledge
All RTC staff are driven to understand a child’s individual needs; their interests, characteristics, and specific aspirations. This vital information is shared securely with tutors, managers, and directors alike to ensure that everyone is fully informed and, therefore, feel collectively equipped to help students reach their goals.
We don’t charge a sign-up fee. Our free introductory lessons aim to ensure that your child is comfortable with a teacher and group, before they commit to their learning journey.
We offer assessments throughout the year. These are fantastic learning tools, enabling all parties to identify areas of relative strength and challenge, as well as providing children with a chance to improve confidence in sitting tests under exam conditions.
Our exclusive materials have been developed over many years and are constantly being revised to fit the ever-changing demands of the national curriculum. We do not license our materials to any other companies and so they are entirely unique to the RTC primary-level courses.
All work is marked thoroughly. There will be comments outlining areas of excellence, in addition to any areas where improvements can be sought. Striking a balance between building confidence and citing gaps in knowledge is vital to progressive learning. Parents are advised to study the marked assessments to gain a better understanding of their child’s ongoing progress.
As a policy, we make sure class sizes never go above nine. This achieves the most effective blend of collective learning and, moreover, enables children to receive that essential individual attention from the teacher.
Alongside our regular Year 7 to Year 11 classes in English, Maths and Science and our primary-level English, Maths and Reasoning lessons, we occasionally offer tuition in additional subjects such as Latin or Languages.
In addition to 11+ and GCSE Holiday Revision, we offer holiday workshops such as Bringing Science to Life for primary-level children and financial literacy for high school pupils. These are a wonderful way of engaging children in new areas of interest.
We are Ofsted registered and so are able to accept childcare vouchers. We are passionate about extending the benefits of supplementary learning to an ever-wider audience.
